Nicola’s own recollections of Tennessee include a raucous mockingbird with its grey body shading away into a whitish grey underside, but it was its wings that were the most memorable. Dark grey feathers carry strong white lines and if the bird’s song failed to demand instant attention, its white wing stripes certainly would. Passion flowers and their fruit are familiar in Moorcroft art.
